Today, June 22, 2019 officially marks 2 years that SN10Hub has been around! Crazy that time goes by so quickly, it feels like just yesterday I was creating the first SN10Hub server in June of 2017. I would like to give a huge thank you to those of you that have been with us since the very beginning, one of which is a Senior Mod to this day. You know who you are ❤. Anyway, let's go over what will happen today, have a look back at some of the history of SN10Hub, and a look into what's to come for year 3!
Happening today at SN10Hub
- All day long, there will be a Quadruple Coins Network Booster active on Birth! Now's the time to grind for that next Ultimate that you want to unlock!
- Excluding staff members, the top 3 people that get the most kills today on Birth will be given the VIP rank for free!
A brief look into our history
Everything started exactly 2 years ago today, with a (poorly made, but pretty good by Minehut player's standards back then) prison server. The server was fairly successful, and eventually I'd created a survival server under a similar name. Since this was when Minehut servers were 1 per Minecraft account, a trusted friend of mine let me use his Minecraft account to run the server, which also had access to tier 1 forever, which proved to be very useful. Skyblock was done similarly but with a permanent tier 3 instead of tier 1. After a while, I'd met our second developer today, Hundeklemmen, who used to own a free server host named MineNation. SN10Hub eventually partnered with MineNation and we hosted prison, survival and skyblock on MineNation. However, days before the 1-Year Anniversary, MineNation had a hardware failure, which meant we had no in game servers during the anniversary! We'd even eventually had a clicker server on Minehut which I personally believe to be part of the reason GenPvP is so wide spread on Minehut nowadays. Let me explain. I didn't want the only thing for people to be able to do is click mindlessly, so you could optionally warp to a PvP arena, which was a unique (for the time, being in 2017) concept where you'd parkour from island to island reaching higher level emerald blocks that gave more Gems (the server's currency. Clickers gave Gems too) the further into the course they were. You could PvP here by knocking each other off the map. There were literally no weapons at all that you could buy, knockback was all you had. I am deeply sorry for taking part in creating one of the most overdone and poorly executed server types on Minehut to this day. The clicker server was the final server we had created on the old in-game account based Minehut. Our first server that we created on the panel based Minehut was "PrisunPvP", a name that both veterans of this server and even some newer players should be very familiar with. Need some context? PrisunPvP was remade later into 2018, and would be renamed Hail before Christmas! The first time that Super League Gaming had actually played on Hail was when it was still named PrisunPvP! PrisunPvP was very different back in January 2018, having literally no lobby, just a barrier box and a sign to warp to the PvP arena. From there you could fight people on islands, however how you upgraded things was completely different. Kills only gave you Souls, which you would use to unlock perks, you got Gems by mining ores. Gems were used to purchase items from the shop, unlock kits and buy kits. Yes, I just said that, "unlock and buy kits". You always spawned with the default kit, no matter what. You gained access to higher level kits by unlocking them with Gems, and then purchasing the kit for a cheaper price after unlocking it! The default kit items were unbreakable, however kits purchased from the shop also had durability, meaning you couldn't just keep a high level kit forever, and killing a player for their kit would only get you so far. This system actually made PrisunPvP of January 2018 in some ways, more balanced than Hail as we know it today! You didn't just go in mindlessly with the highest level kit, because you knew that if you couldn't make use of it, you'd lose those items and be set back a hefty amount of Gems! A real lobby was eventually built for PrisunPvP by our current only builder, DownloadedBuilds, who'd built it as her build test build. That lobby was never used on the original PrisunPvP, but was used as the original lobby for the recreation of PrisunPvP that would exist later into 2018, however I will cover that later. After the original PrisunPvP, we had an FFA server, which was the final "SN10Hub Legacy" server. It was named "OreFFA" (continuing the name scheme of the previous servers, which such horrible names I am omitting them from this post for your own sake). Fun fact: Birth today is based on OreFFA, both are FFA PvP servers, and a lot of ideas that were suggested for OreFFA now exist on Birth or will be coming to Birth in a future update. OreFFA was pretty successful, and actually went through 2 different methods of content creation at the same time. At first it was created with Minecraft 1.12 functions (.mcfunction files) and it was really horrible. However I'd started learning how to use Skript during then, and slowly started migrating new development over to Skript instead of functions. Eventually, something bad happened. No matter how much we tried, we could not get OreFFA to start up. Now this was before I was friends with a good amount of Minehut staff members, so we were screwed. We'd went months without having any in game servers to join. People started leaving the Discord server, and some thought that SN10Hub was dead. It wasn't.* If there's one thing I can promise all of you it's that SN10Hub is never going to die. No matter how bad things may seem, I will never let this server die. We've been around for 2 years already, and we have no plans of going away any time soon. Anyway, in summer of 2018, the first SN10Hub server in months had released on Minehut, MinehutUHC. A lot of people overlook this server because in its lifetime it got less than 1000 unique players joined (compared to its successor Hail, getting over 3500), but it was equally important. It was the start of SN10Hub's comeback, and got us going with some reliable fans who still stick around to this day! Hail was still known as PrisunPvP when it released a few months after MinehutUHC, and actually had a lot of different variants of itself. First, it had the original leftover lobby from the old PrisunPvP that was unused on the original server but used on the late 2018 one. Then at one point, two versions of PrisunPvP existed with separate stats, the Minehut server and the Kingdoms.gg server. For a while, SN10Hub and Kingdoms.gg were partnered, which ended about a month later due to one of their admins, who I will leave unnamed before any of you go to stir up drama, was being very rude to me and clearly did not understand how important I was to Kingdoms. At the time, PrisunPvP was the only server on their network that got any players at all, when there was 13 players on Kingdoms, that was because there was 11 on PrisunPvP. Players of the Kingdoms server eventually lost their stats from the Kingdoms version when it was discontinued. The Kingdoms version of PrisunPvP was also the first version of PrisunPvP to get the Halloween themed map update. After the drama with Kingdoms ended and I terminated the partnership, we went back to Minehut which had improved since I was last focusing on it. We had a new arena built scrapping the separate lobby idea because too many people couldn't figure out how to go to the arena. I still don't understand how, since there was literally an item in your hotbar to go to the arena, and a hologram in front of your face telling about the "/play" command that did the exact same thing, but whatever. The new arena was actually the same arena used today, and that had gotten itself the Christmas theme. When PrisunPvP came back with the new map, it was renamed to Hail, to create a more memorable and professional name for the server. Hail turned out to be a massive success, and was the first Super League Gaming featured Minehut server! If you want to read more about that, I'd consider reading about it on Super League Gaming's blog post about Hail! Released on Kingdoms (because they'd seemed to improve) was Rebirth, which was similar to our final legacy server OreFFA, but with lots of improvements. Eventually Birth released on Minehut too, and the Kingdoms version was (once again) abandoned and closed down. Birth did decently well on Minehut but not nearly to the extent of Hail because it had to be closed down much earlier due to an unfortunate occurrence of user data loss for a few players when Minehut updated to Spigot 1.13.2, and them updating to Spigot 1.14.1 pretty much put the final nail in the coffin for Birth on Minehut. Before the Minehut server closed however, the dedicated version of Birth and the Minehut version could both be joined at the same time, each with their own advantages. The Minehut version typically had more players because, well, it was on Minehut, and so was most of our fanbase. Minehut is a great place for growing a community because of how many people can discover your server easily. The advantages of the dedicated server for Birth are that it runs on Spigot 1.8.8, giving a more authentic PvP experience, server lag nearly never happens, and the server is always online. After Birth on Minehut closed, the only remaining server open on SN10Hub became the dedicated server for Birth, which is where we are today.
A brief look into what's to come
I feel that the 2-Year anniversary is a great time to discuss some plans I have for the future of SN10Hub. So let me just list a few now, and I will likely make another post later into the summer detailing them better and explaining some other plans I have!
- Hail is coming back, with almost 10 major updates that'll make it worth the wait!
- With the return of Hail, will come a custom global punishment system.
- A new store is coming, we will be switching from Buycraft to CraftingStore.
- Our 2 upcoming projects (Drilled & MCMonopoly) will be finished and released.
- UHC will come back.
Happy summer to all of you, I hope to see you all still here for the 3-Year anniversary next year! ❤
